Punta del Este is more than a summer resort, more than miles of endless sand, bathed by the clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean. As I write this, I look out the window and the sun shines, the day is clear and quiet, green is the predominant colour everywhere, the gardens are beginning to bloom, birds sing, what more can I ask for? I live in a place blessed by nature and by the laws of a country that protects the investment, be it foreign or domestic. A place that is safe, where my 10 years old daughter can go out on the streets without any worries, as it happens she has a school friend over for the weekend and they are making plans to go horseback riding. The cherry on the cake is that I can afford this life style for very little money.
Punta del Este lives two realities, the off season when all is quiet and a few tourists come for weekends, the whales make their usual August stop in their migration and not much else.
The other Punta is the one that explodes with visitors form all over the world, the one that lives at night as much as during the day time, the Punta where expensive cars and polo competitions are an excuse to get a very wealthy class together under a relaxed atmosphere, a place that has kept progress and development as a primary concern due to its exclusive public and yet has also maintained untouched beaches and wooded areas for the more naturally inclined visitors as well as for future generations.
I am in constant touch with foreign travellers and their comments have made me appreciate this place even more. To us safety, modern life style, clean environment, stable government and clear rules for investing are a way of life and we take it for granted when we should not. In fact it is a very rare occurrence in today’s unstable world.
I urge to make time to come and visit Punta del Este, you will not be disappointed.
